Board of Education/Youth

February/March/April 2011

Voter’s Assembly Meeting

Committee Members: Charlotte Balmer, Patri Cabe, Deb Johnson, Heidi Lenski and Beth Payseur

Sunday School and Education:

  • In efforts to “dig deeper” and save money, we have begun taking our Sunday School lessons from the Children’s Message material. There are several websites to help us, but this way we can reinforce what Deb has so wonderfully demonstrated upstairs and dig deeper into the subject mater, with the intent of reinforcing the message and save the money it would cost us to order preprinted Sunday School material.

Youth Bible Study:

  • Our February youth small group Bible study was held Tuesday, Feb. 25th. It was a great success, we had 4 small groups with approximately 20 people in attendance.
  • Our March youth small Bible study was held Tuesday, March 22nd. Again we had a nice turnout, 10 children from ages 5 to 16.
  • The next Youth Bible Study will be held April 26th, we are inviting all of our youth to bring friends but we are also inviting the youth at Watuga Baptist Church.

Youth Retreats:

  • The Mid-Winter youth retreat in Pigeon Forge was held February 25 – 27th.  We took 8 children and 5 adults. It was a great experience, not much sleep, but tons of fun! The total spent was $2,176.11.
  • The Tending the Flame Retreat, will be held in Richmond VA on July 29-31. We are discussing who will be able to attend.

Congregational Activities and Fundraisers:

  • The Youth will continue to host the 1st Sunday of every month’s fellowship with a pancake and sausage breakfast we will have a youth donation basket present, but not required.
  • Our next big fundraiser will be a Pancake Breakfast at Fatz Café! It will be held Saturday, April 23rd from 7 to 10 am. We asked the congregation to help us pre-sell tickets to their neighbors, friends and family. The tickets cost $7 (we get $4 and Fatz gets $3). Fatz will supply the food, cook and prepare and clean up! The youth will seat everyone, bring food to the tables and clear the tables. The meal consists of all you can eat pancakes, link sausage, fruit cup and any drink, kids 4 and under eat free.
  • The youth will help with Good Friday services, by handing out nails and helping with the nails in the cross.
  • The youth will meet at church on Saturday, April 23rd at 10:30 to decorate the cross for Easter Sunday; we are working on getting flowers donated by local florists.

Community Outreach:

  • We were asked by the preschool to assist in a yard sale as a Relay for Life fundraiser, we will agree to help set up and possibly cook hot dogs.
  • We will have our annual Easter egg change collection with our congregation as our donation to Relay for Life.
  • We have agreed to have a booth selling hot dogs at Relay for Life again this year as another fundraiser for the event.
  • We discussed the Dream Team response and  informational meeting Sat. March 26th – the consensus is more community involvement and outreach, especially with our local schools
  • We represented RLC at Macon Middle School with an end of the grading period teacher, staff and faculty breakfast – it was a huge success.
  • We coordinated efforts with Macon Middle School and had 3 members train and assist as proctors for end of grade testing.

Events:

  • The youth attended the alpaca sheering at George and Carol Fritz’s on April 9th.

May the Lord continue to bless our ministry to His children!
